Making an Impact in Australia

Disease Prevention and Treatment - Mental Health Research

Australian Rotary Health (ARH) - investing in Australian mental health research

Mental health problems are on the rise in Australia. Depression is estimated by the World Health Organisation to become the leading cause of disease burden by 2020.

Australian Rotary Health is leading the way in remedying this neglect by funding Mental Health Research Grants, Scholarships and Fellowships into mental health.

(1) The Club was pleased to support the amazing work of ARH again this year through donating $7,500 in March 2025:

(2) 2,500 towards providing Indigenous Health Scholarships - for Indigenous Australians who can then use their education to benefit other Indigenous people.

(3) $5,000 for the ongoing important work in Mental Health Research Grants - research grants into mental health of children 0-12 years for up to three years per project. Funding outcomes from symposium - Healthy Children - Bright Futures - improving the mental health of 0-12 year olds.

Disease Prevention and Treatment - Monash Children's Hospital Cancer Appeal

Support to fund a specialist Apheresis Nurse to improve quality of care and survival chances for children with high-risk cancers

Each year, the District Governor's partner chooses a project of special interest, and this year Leanne Byron is urging us to help her raise funds for her 'passion project' - employing a specialist Apheresis Nurse at Monash Children's Hospital.

A specialist nurse would help avoid children with high-risk cancers having to move from Monash to the Royal Children's Hospital for their Apheresis Therapy.  This therapy uses the child's own stem cells, extracted, strengthened and re-introduced into the child's body at the optimal time, enabling them to withdrand higher doses of chemotheraphy and radiation, significantly improving their chance of survival.

The Club was pleased to contribute $5,000 to this special appeal for 2024-25.

Helping those impacted by Natural Disasters

Disaster Fund Donation

Each year the Club contributes to Rotary appeals following natural disasters, whether they be from flood, fire, drought or cyclones.

In 2024-2025, the Club contributed $3,000 to this appeal.
